Hello everyone! I don't know if i really have anything to blog about. but i know most of you are probably sick of looking at my chipped and broken fingernails. So, i'll spare your faithful eyes and write something new. A Story...
It began one fateful morning. I rolled out of bed, crept through the hallway across the cold tile floor, and into the bathroom where i turned on the shower, steaming hot. As i got ready for my day, i sang a little tune. Not to my surprise, little Simon meowed right along with me. Once my mascara was applied and my hair was just right, i packed up my belongings and put on my coat. My long, red coat that hugged me at the waist and flared out at the bottom. Feeling confident, i kissed Simon goodbye and sneaked out the front door, locking it behind me. Walking to my car, i found a shiny silver dollar lying, heads-up, on the sidewalk. I crouched down to pick it up. "Two-thousand twenty two.." i said to myself. "that's strange, it's only two-thousand ten. How can this be?" i looked around to see if anyone was watching. The coast was clear. I stuffed the coin into the pocket of my red coat and got into my car.
The drive to work was normal...or so i thought. I noticed a giant flock of black birds flying in a zig-zag pattern through the skyline of downtown. They seemed to hover over each building as they flew. Stopped at a stoplight, i watched as the pedestrians scattered trying to stay ahead of the black blob. Slowly, one by one, people began to freeze as the bob passed over them, their faces pointed up to the sky. I watched as the cars in front of me slowed to a stop on the street, their drivers frozen as well. I put my car in park and braced myself as the blob passed over me, the horrible sound of the birds long and drawn out caw-cawing nearly bursting my eardrums. I closed my eyes and held my breath as the cawing passed over my car. Tears filled my eyes. The fear and pain was more than i could bare. After what seemed to be a minute, i unclenched my fists, opened my eyes and wiped away the tears. The world was still, all except for me. I watched as people continued to freeze under the cloud of back birds. Terrified, i put my car in gear and drove, weaving in and out of stalled cars, forward towards work.
Once inside my building, terror stuck me again. Not a soul was moving inside. No one but me. I slowly approached a bystander, still with her face to the sky, and reach out to touch her. Her skin felt warm. She did not blink, but i could hear the slow steady sound of breath entering and exiting her lungs. "Hello?" I said, softly at first, "Can anyone hear me? HELLO?" my voice echoed across the silent corridor. Without a second's hesitation, i turned and bolted back outside and to my car. I got in and drove. The dark blob had moved its way towards my neighborhood. Cars, buses, bikers, and pedestrians were frozen in time as i passed them. Not a sound was to be heard throughout the city, nothing but the long eerie caws of the birds and the low rumbling hum of my car engine.
I pulled into my driveway only to find Simon, still as stone, sitting in the window, his face to the sky. "No, SIMON!" i cried as i ran toward the front door. i collapsed on front the stairs before even entering my house. "What's the use? Why is this happening? Why them and not me? Why am i alone?!" i screamed these questions at the top of my lungs, knowing that no one would hear me or give me an answer. I hid my face in my hands and began to cry. Suddenly, i remembered the Silver Dollar in my pocket. I took it our and turned in over and over in my hands for a moment. Then i...
